Stay One More Night
Stay one more night
Till the rain falls no more
Till the sunlight fills the cracks in the door
I’ll stay by your side
No more blind, foolish pride
If only you’ll stay one more night
Stay one more night
Till the first rays of dawn
There’ll be time enough
For sleep when you’re gone
But sleep if you will
I’ll be ever so still
If only you’ll stay one more night
And I know you must go
And even though I won’t keep you too long
I’ll say one last word, and sing one last song
If only you’ll stay one more night

1992. I know it's fashionable these days to accuse someone who voices
the sentiments of this song as "needy." But then, aren't we all secretly
needy and only openly "cool?"
I was living in Davis, and I'd had a one-night stand with
my landlady. She was so beautiful, and so tiny and frail. Of course, she
didn't love me, and she was never that vulnerable again with me. But I was.
And this is the song that came out of it.
