I Can Dream Again
She can take me away
Or she can set me free
I always know I’m free to come or go
She is ice and fire, more than one desire
And I can dream again
Through the night, just when I know it’s right
To whisper breathless words to make her smile
Because she knows my touch
Never asks too much
And I can dream again
The search is over
The road ends here
And the night is clear
I don’t look for a reason
To be happy or be free
She is ice and fire, more than one desire
And I can dream again
Through the night, just when I know it’s right
To whisper breathless words to make her smile
Because she knows my touch
Never asks too much
And I can dream again

1995. Another song about my ideal mate. I use the default completion
date of 1995 because that's when I recorded and copywrited these songs,
but this one could have begun sometime in 1970s as a guitar theme, as so
many of my songs have.
I'm always surer about when I finish a lyric than a guitar
part or vocal — mainly because words are much harder work. Themes,
however, are timeless, and the theme of the ideal mate has no beginning
or end. It seems to have always been with me.
