Glen the Graphics Guy Masthead (Top of the Page Logo)
Hello, my name is Glen Nemeth, aka Glen the Graphics Guy. I design Web sites, and this is my personal and professional Web site. This portion, the Introduction, represents the professional side where I explain the techniques I use to design commercial Web sites. I will explain how I design these pages using a combination of HTML and CSS coding, with some assistance from Adobe Dreamweaver, and graphics programs such as Adobe PhotoShop.
The personal side is represented by my Journal and Lyrics pages. Much of what I apply to my professional Web design work I learn from daily graphics and design work with these personal pages, which also employ my own theory of Web design.
A fourth section, my Storefront enables you to contract my Web design services for the initial design of a Web site, with an option to renew services in 3-month increments. It is my hope you will learn how to continue this work with minimal assistance from me or any other Web design professional. There a donation section if you would like to help me support this Web site, and I plan to sell various items online as well, both through eBay and directly through the storefront.
Lastly, there is a News section that offers news from both alternative and mainstream online publications.

Glen the Graphics Guy - Raising Web Design to an Art
I created this image April 1997 when I worked as a Graphics Artist for the Defense Logistics Agency in Lathrop, California. I don't look like this (at least not anymore), and the design has gone through several changes and adaptations. I wanted something that represented supreme confidence, and what better to do that than creating a graphics superhero? When I left the DLA in 1999, I was unemployed for about 6 months. Eventually I again found gainful employment, but adapting this logo to a Web model and developing my first Web site got me through that tough time. It has been my logo ever since.

About Me
Glen F. Nemeth aka Glen the Graphics GuyYou'll get the long version, once I complete my journal. Suffice it to say, though, that this is my third career change in 3 decades, and I think this one's a keeper.
To make a very long story short: I left my career as a newspaper editor in 1989 to pursue my lifelong love of design in graphic arts in the 1990s. With the advent of the Internet, which allowed me to develop both my love of language and my passion for imagery, my professional life came full circle. I've been in the graphics business since 1989, and I've been designing commercial Web sites since 1999. I am currently the webmaster of glenemeth.com, primedirec.com and five other Web sites.
I've made it my mission to apply my graphics experience and sensibility to raising Web design to an art form. I'm applying my more recent experience and sensibility to e-commerce as well. It has not always been easy to stick to my guns, and even more difficult to make the compromises necessary to turn theory into fact. Default styles in HTML make it difficult to control the layout of a Web page, and even the application of Cascading Style Sheets can be tricky, as not all browsers render their application identically, and adjustments have to be made.
It can also be very difficult to convince clients that the design of a Web site can be every bit as critical in getting their message across as all the really underhanded black hat SEO parlor tricks that unprincipled Webmasters use to get themselves and their clients noticed. Often such tactics tend to clutter up the Internet with irrelevant dummy pages full of bogus links, much in the same way that airborne pollutants contribute to the degradation of the atmosphere. Greed and egomania fuel such tactics, and I refuse to subscribe to them. White hat tactics such as organic search may require more patience and certainly more work, but they are worth the effort in the long run. I will not work with a client who believes otherwise.
I hope you enjoy your visit to my Web site, and I hope you come back often. There will many changes in the months ahead as I add new content to my Introduction pages that feature instruction in Web design and Web design theory. As always, I appreciate your interest.
